Located in the Kumeyaay-Ipai Interpretive Center, the construction of the Kumeyaay home or Ewa'a on the Poway site took place in November of 1999 in attempt to rebuild the past and preserve some of Poway’s Native American Heritage. The sophisticated and distinct culture thrived in complete diverse geological environment with political and social systems in place. This authentic home explains the historical and cultural history of the Kumeyaay to modern people. Volunteers have built trails, planted vegetation and constructed an Ewa’a of willow branches and tulle reeds to recreate and landscape the Pauwai Valley at the time the Kumeyaay roamed the land.
